Когда употребляем
1. Прошедшее совершенное время Past Perfect в подавляющем большинстве случаев используется в сочетании с простым прошедшим временем Past Simple. Как правило, в предложении есть два действия в прошлом, при этом одно действие произошло раньше другого. То действие, которое случилось раньше, ставим в Past Perfect. То действие, которое совершилось позже, ставим в Past Simple.
Scully had noticed the Smoking Man before the shootout started. - Скалли заметила Курильщика до того, как началась перестрелка.
2. Действие произошло к какому-то моменту в прошлом. В этом случае нужен предлог by.
Mulder had found the aliens by 2 pm yesterday. - Малдер нашёл пришельцев к 2-м часам дня вчера.
Схема
HAD + V3
V3 - это глагол в третьей форме (Past Participle). К правильным глаголам нужно добавить окончание ed, у неправильных - посмотреть форму в третьей колонке таблицы неправильных глаголов.
